As of September 1st, 2025, you can now see a physical therapist in the state of Texas without needing a referral from another doctor or provider.

- Under the current law, you can see a physical therapist over the course of 30 consecutive business days* before a referral would be required to continue treatment. *Some insurances require a physician's referral to begin physical therapy.

- See the press release for the new rule:

- If you do have a referral for physical therapy for a specific location, the patient has the choice to go to any physical therapy clinic he or she desires. The referral is valid at any physical therapy location.
